Investment funds or mutual funds are easy investment instruments for the beginner investors, but managed mutual funds are expensive compared to the Exchange traded funds (ETFs) with high management fees and transaction costs. Some hedge funds charge additional performance fees. Mutual funds usually do not beat the stock market indexes and are not suitable for the short term investing or day trading. Some managed funds are well managed, may use unique trading strategies or make specific investments into market sectors or emerging markets. ETFs are more affordable and tradable investment instruments, there are inverse ETFs or bear market funds available to profift from the short side of the stock market crash. Some leveraged ETFs are two or three times leveraged and provide leveraged returns.
